Mitchell O’Neill claimed the NSW Secondary Schools’ high-jump crown, while Harrison Podmore-Taylor snared the primary school championship.
And Charlotte Streat won the 9-10 years discus at the Victorian titles.
“It’s a great effort for the two best high-jumpers in the state at school level to come from this region.” coach Greg Simpson said.
Corowa High student O’Neill is 187 centimetres, and jumped 1.98 metres.
“The two-metre barrier is the next thing I want to get to,” he said.
“Things like belief and inspiration come from yourself, but when it comes to strategy and physically getting bigger, Greg has been so helpful to me over the last six years.”
Podmore-Taylor, meantime, has completed only a handful of sessions with Simpson, jumping 1.53m in competition.
“He’s got a nice technique, and has been doing a lot of hard work as well on it,” Simpson said.
The Scots School Albury student will now represent NSW at the Australian championships later this year.
