Far from showing a prickly personality, the echidna made its way into the outside lunch area of the council offices on Tuesday.
Customer service officer Sam Cantwell said it was comfortable with few people around, allowing them to come close and take a photo.
“We get the odd koala, but we never see echidnas,” he said.
“It was just luck that he came up to us.”
July and August is mating season for the animals, which has led to a spike in population in the area.
Mr Cantwell said the council had received advice to leave any echidnas alone if spotted, but this week’s visitor has yet to return.
