Wodonga win fifth successive match in Ovens and Murray bowls

WODONGA continued on its winning way with a hard-fought 100-82 victory over Benalla in A1 pennant at Wodonga on Saturday.

The Bulldogs won three of the four rinks after leading by just two shots at tea.

Ashley Bates led the way with a 30-16 win over Sharon Warfe.

Peter McLarty accounted for Bruno Meneguzzi 24-20 and Mark Coulston defeated Tony Williams 27-18.

Former Victorian player Matt Robertson kept Benalla in touch by upstaging Paul Davies 28-19.

Bates said the match was closer than the final score indicated.

“It was tight all the way,” Bates said.

“I thought it was a high standard game.”

Myrtleford sprung a surprise by playing an 88-all draw against Corowa Civic.

YMGCR defeated Wangaratta 97-79 and Yarrawonga disposed of Rutherglen 97-76.

The ladder is: Wodonga 74, Yarrawonga 70, Corowa Civic 61, Rutherglen 42, YMGCR 42, Wangaratta 35, Benalla 23, Myrtleford 13.
