The Winter Solstice founder was congratulated by Malcolm Turnbull on her nomination for the Australian Mental Health Prize in Sydney on Wednesday.
Mrs Baker requested Mr Turnbull visit Nolan House and he accepted.
“He pronounced my name wrong … so I said, ‘then, perhaps you could come have a look at our mental health facility and assess how poor the facility is’,” she said.
“He promised he would.”
Mrs Baker was one of seven finalists for the inaugural prize that was won by Kim Ryan, the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses chief executive.
“I don’t feel disappointed at all – I felt humbled and honoured to have been nominated,” Mrs Baker said.
She now hoped Mr Turnbull would come through on his promise.
“We really can’t be living in today’s time with this enormous beautiful cancer centre and our suicide rates at an all-time high, without a decent place for people to recover,” she said.
“I know that people are doing their very best at Nolan House (but) we need a new facility.”
