While Tuesday will be the first time she wields the willow at Lavington Oval, the Melbourne Stars opener has played at Albury Hockey Centre.
She is a long-time Hawthorn player and lined up against the Albury-Wodonga Strikers in 2012.
“Even before I started playing cricket I always said I wanted to go to the Olympics for hockey,” Lanning said.
“I love playing (hockey), it’s just so much fun.
“I love the fact you can mis-trap the ball but you can go back and get it, whereas in cricket, if you stuff it up, you’re out.”
Lanning and her Melbourne Stars teammates will arrive in Albury on Sunday for their WBBL match against Sydney Thunder.
