The bike was travelling east along Murray Valley Highway about 7pm when the rider tried to overtake a four-wheel-drive, which had started to turn right, and the vehicles collided.
His bike skidded into the yard of a nearby home and the man died at the scene.
Wangaratta Highway Patrol Senior Constable Steve Williams said the male driver and passenger in the four-wheel-drive were uninjured, but in shock.
Police were contacting the man’s family on Sunday.
“The family will be hurting, but it won’t just be the family, it will be the whole community,” he said.
Meanwhile, a second person has died from a tragic crash at Edi last weekend.
Rosemary White, 75, was the passenger in a car which crashed into a tree after veering off Edi-Cheshunt Road and had been in a coma until Saturday. Her son, Basil, was the driver and also died at the scene.
