After pushing for Commonwealth Games selection in the three-discipline event, injuries turned the Border product towards cycling to reignite his career.
And he’ll enter the next phase in Wednesday night’s criterium in Ballarat’s Sturt Street.
Featonby will debut for the new UCI continental team Drapac-Pat’s Veg, alongside Ballarat’s Liam White.
“I’d be over the moon with a top 10 finish. I’ll be happy with a top 15,” White said.
Featonby has made an instant impact in his new sport, grabbing a top 10 finish in the Tour Of Bright.
He also performed well in the National Capital Tour, snaring a win in the second stage.
Defending champion and explosive sprinter Caleb Ewan is favourite to win the national title, while there’s a number of other past champions, including Steele Von Hoff.
