Along with the Violent Femmes, the Wahgunyah event features Australian Hall of Fame post-punk rockers Hoodoo Gurus, supported by The Whitlams, Tim Rogers and Models.
Violent Femmes came together in Milwaukee in 1981 – it was at the same time Le Hoodoo Gurus were finding their voice in Sydney.
Like the Gurus, the Violent Femmes’ original and inventive sound pushed the envelope, blending folk and punk, and lyrics filled with humour, wit and sarcasm.
The bands followed similar, parallel, paths with the Femmes releasing eight studio albums and a string of classic indie anthems, including American Music, Gone Daddy Gone, Nightmares, Kiss Off and Blister In The Sun while the Gurus, with nine albums, performed Aussie classics Like Wow – Wipeout, Bittersweet, What’s My Scene and Miss Freelove.
