The Melbourne man, aged in his 60s, had been travelling on Lockharts Gap Road on Tuesday night.
He skidded to avoid a car at Sandy Creek while heading to Mitta.
He hit gravel, rolled, and damaged his helmet, causing head injuries about 6pm.
His wife, who was a passenger, wasn't seriously injured.
The man was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.
