For those brave enough, ghost tours and paranormal investigations will take place in the evening at Beechworth’s old lunatic asylum.
They say it’s one of the most haunted buildings in the country, with more than 9000 patients having died there before its closure in 1995.
Tour guide Geoff Brown said a full moon combined with Friday the 13th meant ghosts would likely appear come nightfall.
“They’ve been so many souls that have passed on there,” he said.
“A lot have stuck around.”
Many patients at Beechworth were subjected to electro-shock therapy and forced to wear straitjackets, and some can still sense their suffering to this day.
Mr Brown does not guarantee paranormal activity, but he said if it’s going to happen anywhere, it’s in the asylum.
And they don’t fake anything – the former hospital is creepy enough.
