The injured man and a police officer were treated for smoke inhalation and deep cuts following a siege on Northcott Parade.
Witnesses say they saw the offender setting a mattress on fire before jumping from a balcony.
Neighbours reported hearing a woman screaming at the residence at about 5.30pm and police we seen rushing to the scene a short time later.
A section of Northcott Parade was blocked off for more than an hour as fire trucks, ambulance and police vehicles surrounded the crime scene.
Residents in nearby streets gathered to see what was going on as smoke pooled from the house into the street and flames licked the balcony.
One woman, who wished to remain unnamed, said the incident looked like something out of Hollywood.
“It looks like what you see on TV when there’s a siege or a drug bust where known armed people are involved,” she said.
“Police are ducking down behind wagons, it’s alarming as no residents know what’s going on.”
Another neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said police believed the man had a make-shift firearm and fuel on the premises.
The man allegedly came out onto the first floor balcony intermittently during the incident.
She said the man screamed at police and threw a burning pillow off the balcony.
The intense stand-off between police and the offender ended when the man dragged a mattress onto the balcony and set it alight.
A neighbour said they witnessed the man jump off the balcony before he was dragged away from the scene.
While firefighters rushed to put out the flames, paramedics treated those who were injured in the stand-off and police remained at the scene to investigate.
