The Indi MP tabled a motion on Monday calling on the Federal government to alter the Australian Rail Track Corporation’s “statement of corporate intent” and make the needs of regional passengers their “core business”.
She also wanted the agreement between the ARTC and Victorian government for the Albury line released and reviewed.
“This is effective action the government can take now to deliver improved rail services in North East Victoria,” Ms McGowan said. “It is vital the government develop a plan for passenger rail services that meets the economic, social and environmental needs of regional Australia.”
She also called on the Victorian Transport Minister Jacinta Allan to take the issue seriously and act on her $17 million commitment.
“It’s time to stop the buck passing – this is a problem that is beyond apportioning blame.”
