Former North Melbourne midfielder Ben Speight is the Magpies’ key recruit as they look to snap a six-year finals drought.
“I definitely think my best football is ahead of me,” Speight said.
“I’m only a young fellow and the body’s holding up well, so it’s definitely in front of me.”

The 26-year-old joined the Kangaroos in the 2009 rookie draft and played 10 games until delisted in late 2012.
“He’s going to be a very good player in the Ovens and Murray,” Wangaratta coach Dean Stone said.
“You don’t get drafted and play AFL, as well as play more than 100 VFL games, unless you’re a very good player.
“He’s a picture of fitness and he’s a professional in the way he prepares, plus his leadership and experience will be invaluable.”
Midfielder Speight played with Werribee forward Josh Porter, who’s returned home.
“Obviously Josh has developed in recent years, and he runs and jumps for the footy really well, marking the footy at the highest point,” he said.
