SDRA stewards on Sunday concluded an inquiry into the events surrounding MacFarlane weighing in 600 grams light after riding pre-race favourite Ashdam to a narrow victory.
Ashdam was subsequently disqualified and the race awarded to Girls Own.
MacFarlane, who pleaded guilty, is free to ride at the Albury Gold Cup meeting on Friday with her ban to begin the following day.
But the true reasons for the apprentice weighing in light remain a mystery, according to SDRA chief steward John Davidson.
"Stewards were unable to positively identify the cause of the underweight," he said.
"The responsibility lies with the rider to ensure they weigh out and weigh back in correctly.
"But with any level of surety we were unable to say what happened.
"She could offer no explanation."
