About a dozen chefs and sommeliers from Spanish restaurants MoVida, MoVida Next Door and MoVida Aqui visited 16 producers on Monday and Tuesday ahead of the collaborative dinner with Beechworth chef Michael Ryan on May 19.
The sold-out MoVida, Provenance, Maestros dinner at Beechworth is part of the fifth annual High Country Harvest festival.
MoVida head chef Scott Stevenson said the team was impressed with the quality produce, wine and craft beer in the North East and High Country over the two-day tour.
He said they looked forward to bringing their signature interpretations to the best High Country produce as part of the collaborative dinner.
“We’ll be using MoVida sensibilities in a North East setting,” he said.
“Goat will be a highlight for me because it’s perfect to showcase our Spanish style of cooking.”
Chef’s Hatted Beechworth restaurant Provenance chef Michael Ryan said he looked forward to the collaboration with MoVida.
“It’s good to see what other chefs are doing,” he said. “My focus has been on Japanese food so people can expect some Japanese techniques.”
The MoVida chefs and sommeliers visited Long Lane Capers, Myrrhee Premium Boer Goats, King Valley Dairy, Tolpuddle Goat Cheese and Farm Foods, Chrismont, Pfeiffers Wines, Jones Winery & Vineyard, Bridge Road Brewers, Pennyweight Wines, Castagna, Reed & Co Distilling, Mayford Wines, Indigo Lamb & Vineyard, Beechworth Honey local apiary, Bright Chocolate and the Australian Pumpkin Seed Company.
MoVida will complete its High Country Harvest experience with a High Country-inspired lunch in Melbourne during June on a date yet to be announced.
The biggest High Country Harvest festival to date boasts 53 events from May 5 until 21.
The festival opens on May 5 at Brown Brothers’ historic barn with dinner by Hatted chef Douglas Elder.
It will offer campfire cookouts, wine blending, cocktail mixing and beer making throughout the festival.
The popular village bonfires will be held at Bright and Moyhu on May 6 and Beechworth and Kiewa Valley on May 20. Tickets: highcountryharvest.com.au.
