Family Vet Centre Wodonga saw 20 pet rabbits during its monthly clinic, with a similar event planned in Albury on Tuesday.
Vet Nadine Miller said growing awareness of this year’s calicivirus release had prompted more people to get their pets vaccinated, which allowed the centre to promote other rabbit health messages. Dr Miller felt rabbit pet numbers appeared to be rising.
“I think it’s getting out there how lovely and social rabbits are,” she said. “Most I see are full-time indoor pets, they sit on the couch with their owner at night and have a cuddle on the lap.”
