The teenager was trapped as the flames spread, with several people using fire extinguishers in a bid to stop the fire.
Detective Inspector Winston Woodward said police victim services could provide support.
“I’m aware there were a number of people who came and assisted with putting out the fire, as the vehicle did burst into flames,” he said.
“Counselling can be obtained through victim services.
“I would highly recommend that those people involved do seek some type of counselling.
“In relation to the police themselves, we speak to each officer involved individually and offer them counselling services if required.
“It’s never easy to deal with situations such as this.”
