With this introduction, a group of women retrieved their collection of 1700 pairs of underwear and 100 bras and handed them over to help women in Africa.
A day trip to Albury on Wednesday proved a good opportunity for the Baulkamaugh CWA to present their contribution to Knickers for Nairobi, an initiative of Mount Beauty Uniting Church.
The donations will join more than 5000 knickers and 1500 bras to be sent to the Kibera slum to help women and girls living in poverty gain dignity and sanitary freedom. Better access to underwear each month also makes it easier for girls to attend school.
Mount Beauty Uniting Church’s Graham Clutterbuck said the project began in December and had received support in Newcastle, central Victoria, the Border and North East.
“We call it a win-win-win,” Mr Clutterbuck said.
“It’s affordable, you feel great about doing it and it’s doing such a lot of good.”
