The course, which had reopened its front nine holes after recent storm damage, was closed by Mr Chappell for three hours after a visit by Wodonga Council staff.
“We made an assumption it had something to do with storm damage, so we made a call to get everyone off the course for safety reasons until we found out what the safety issues were,” he said,
The course has since reopened and the weekend competition will go ahead as planned. Mr Chappell rang The Border Mail to reject Ms Buchanan’s Facebook explanation to members.
Ms Buchanan told The Border Mail she had resigned from her position and would be leaving on June 30.
Wodonga Council confirmed staff had made a routine visit to the course unrelated to storm damage and the council was not involved in the temporary closure.
