After a brief hit of snow in February, the most recent snowfall marks the first in autumn.
Falls Creek business owner Debbie Howie said excitement was building on the mountain as the residents look towards the upcoming ski season.
“It's very exciting up here, we're getting really good snowfall,” she said.
“What this will do is freeze the ground, making it a really good lead-in to the season.
“Early snowfall gives everyone a good feeling, we know that there will be more snow coming in the lead-up to the season.”
Similar snowfalls have occurred at nearby Mount Hotham.
Roads in the Falls Creek area have been closed.
Senior Constable Jason Frede said the Bogong High Plains Road was closed between Shannonvale and the Rocky Valley Dam.
He said about 15 centimetres of snow had fallen on the road.
“If it’s not back open today, it will be tomorrow,” he said.
