Detective Inspector Winston Woodward said two men, who were not known to each other, became involved in a heated argument just after 11.30pm when a 30-year-old man allegedly struck a 23-year-old man with a glass he was holding.
“He was smashed in the face with a scooner glass,” he said. “Police will allege that alcohol has contributed to the offence.”
The impact caused two five-centimetre deep cuts to the victim’s face and he was taken to Albury Hospital to get sutures for his injuries.
Police arrived and established a crime scene, but the alleged attacker had already fled from the club.
“Due to sign in/sign out procedures and CCTV at the club, police were able to identify the male quickly, which resulted in swift action,” Inspector Woodward said.
The man was arrested at his Thurgoona home.
He was taken to Albury police station and charged with reckless wounding, then bailed to appear in Albury Local Court on May 2.
“Police condemn any glassing incident or any violence at a licensed premises within the Albury local area command and the NSW community can be assured that any violence on a licensed premises or a glassing incident of this nature will be investigated fully,” Inspector Woodward said.
“It’s disappointing that police from Albury put a number of resources into the filed and overall, the general behaviour of the (Anzac Day) crowd, people attending licensed premsises, was excellent and we’re very happy with the outcome of that.
“It was just one incident at the end of Anzac Day.”
