Australian racing’s first lady Gai Waterhouse and champion trainer Chris Waller both had horses among the nominations for next Friday’s cup.
Waterhouse and training partner Adrian Bott have nominated horses across both days of next week’s carnival, while Waller has two nominated for the Gold Cup and one for the supporting races.
Waterhouse and Bott have entered Stampede in the Gold Cup, with Lord Macau, Tough As Teak and Red Zephyr in supporting races.
Waller has Life Less Ordinary and Montauk in the Cup, and also Cocoexcel in the Queen of the South.
MTC chief executive Scott Sanbrook is thrilled with the nominations.
“I thought the noms looked fantastic, plenty of depth and good numbers as well,” Sanbrook said.
“It augurs well for a great carnival.”
