Anna Speedie was responding to a public meeting last month which called on the council to back a museum.
“Wodonga has recognised, and continues to recognise, its history in many ways,” Cr Speedie said.
“There is much the council is doing through sites like the heritage-listed Bonegilla Migrant Experience and Junction Square, which recognises its rail heritage.
“As a council, we have not had the opportunity to discuss in-depth the idea of a museum or similar space for the city, appreciating that it is potentially a large and costly exercise that the council will not be able to undertake on its own.”
Councillor Ron Mildren thinks the city should have a museum and believes an earmarked site near the Wodonga RSL would be perfect.
A joint venture between the RSL. Wodonga Historical Society and city band has been floated.
