A working group want a former North East Catchment Management Authority depot east of the Kiewa General Store to become an entry point for the river.
Indigo mayor and working group chairwoman Jenny O’Connor said there was no recreational access to the river at Kiewa-Tangambalanga.
“We’re asking the government and Murray Goulburn to consider finding ways that (depot) could be set up as a recreational site,” Cr O’Connor said.
The plan was raised at the working group’s first meeting on Wednesday morning where a number of other responses to the closure were discussed.
They included seeking $120,000 from the Victorian government to fund a support and transition worker to be employed through the council for 18 months.
The group has 15 members including a Murray Goulburn manager Ben Gursansky.
