It will be the final big announcement from the airline for the year, but managing director Paul Bredereck hasn’t ruled out further destinations in the future.
Canberra and Adelaide ... could be possible options
- JETGO Australia managing director Paul Bredereck
“We’re finally going to daily services out of Albury,” he said.
“We started with a 37-seater, then 44, and and the aim will be to up that to a 50-seater within the space of the next 12 months.
“We’ve looked at both Canberra and Adelaide and they certainly could be possible options in the future, but they’re not on the radar inside of the next 12 months.”
Since beginning their first Albury service on June 20, three flights a week to Brisbane, JETGO has expanded to six days a week.
Mr Bredereck said Saturdays would now be covered as well, leaving Brisbane at 9am and returning from Albury at 11.30am from July 22.
“In the past, where customers might have taken the day off on Friday to get to Brisbane for an engagement on the weekend, they can fly on the Saturday morning,” he said.
“It’s on top of the flights we announced the week before last where we’ve added two Gold Coast flights a week.
“We hope to increase that to three, judging by the forward bookings.”
A major selling point for JETGO has been their Embraer ERJ-135LR 50 jets, with the ability to reach 850km/h speeds.
It hasn’t worked everywhere, though – the airline announced on Monday it would be ending its Port Macquarie to Melbourne flights from July 17 after six months.
Mr Bredereck said it had been “strong from day one” with Albury customers.
“Port Macquarie is more of a retirement destination and service-orientated – there isn’t enough demand to justify our aircraft,” he said.
“Albury is a different market in terms of demographics, social interactions between Albury and South-East Queensland there is a much stronger economic base.”
Albury Mayor Kevin Mack welcomed the addition.
“Albury-Wodonga is a great location; it’s a gateway to the snow and our our beautiful region,” he said.
“I think the strength of the Gold Coast flights is the connection to Townsville and Rockhampton.
“You’ve got a lot of flexibility now that we didn’t have before.”
