In the winter opener’s 10th year, the water of Rocky Valley Lake (3.5 degrees) actually proved a little warmer than outside (minus 3 degrees).
Falls Creek resident Chris Hocking said the event raised more than $3500 towards research into motor neurone disease.
“There’s always a lot of intensity leading into the day, there’s a lot of adrenaline involved in running into a near-freezing lake,” he said.
But those snow gods must be respected.
“They’re doing their work overtime at the moment with 20 centimetres on ground and hopefully more snow next week,” Mr Hocking said.
