A whopping 1200 people poured into the Lauren Jackson Sports centre to watch both the Bandits and Lady Bandits record pulsating wins, raising $1800 for Nick Dempsey's Journey along the way.
Albury-Wodonga Bandits president Steve Wright said the massive turnout was a reflection of the impact McCowan had on the Border community.
“It's unbelievable, it shows how much respect people in the community had for Al,” he said.
“It's great seeing the support on a night like this, especially when the girls get a win the way they did.”
There was added emotion with the presence of the Dempsey family, with the two families remaining close over many years.
McCowan even coached Nick Dempsey as a junior.
“I know that if Al was here, he'd do everything he could to help Nick during his recovery,” Wright said.
