One senior men’s team and two veterans team will contest the event at Greensborough Hockey Club.
Senior co-coach Jeremy Payne has been part of plenty of successful teams and will be hoping to lead the side to its fourth straight state title.
“Without Capital League this year, a lot of the players have dedicated themselves to playing this and making this their elite Albury-Wodonga rep level,” Payne said.
“We’ve got a few good veterans going again in Tony Donnelly, Ben Allen and Charley Wallace.
“We’ve got a few playing in Melbourne and I’m playing in Canberra at the minute, so it’s good to get all the boys back together because we grew up together and played together.
“We’ve won the last two years we’ve played and sort of dominated the tournament over 10 years and we’d like to continue that.”
Payne added the squad will play two to three matches on both Saturday and Sunday in order to qualify for the finals to be staged on Monday.
Veterans’ team manager Craig Pontt said the players ages range from 35 through 65 across the two sides.
He is hoping both can make their way through the pool stages and playoff in Monday’s final against each other.
“We were lucky enough a couple of years ago to get both teams into the final, but generally the second side doesn’t go as well because our numbers are stretched,” Pontt said.
“We’ve been involved in finals for 15 of the last 16 years, so we’ve been pretty well up there and hoping to do something similar this year.”
