Sheep, wool fair attracts best

Dozens of school children had a hands-on taste of the sheep industry during day one of the annual Holbrook Sheep and Wool Fair, held this week at the Holbrook Showgrounds.

Students came from across the Riverina and as far as Ballarat for the event. They spent Wednesday morning in sheep workshops, covering everything from wool and meat to sheep dog work.

Students were able to learn about judging meat sheep and fleeces, how to handle sheep in the show ring, participate in working sheep dog demonstrations and were able to view an autopsy on lambs to learn about mortality rates.

Thursday saw the open sheep competitions between the different breeds and the judging of fleeces.

It ended on Friday with the open sheep interbreed classes and presentations.
