Albury-Wodonga success at Master Builders NSW Southern Central regional awards

AN ALBURY home and a Wodonga school facility claimed the major honours at the Master Builders Association of NSW regional presentation in Wagga on Friday.

Border companies Modem Construction Group and Premier Building and Construction were named the domestic and commercial builders of the year respectively. 

Fifteen out of about 27 categories in the Southern Central Regions 2017 Building Awards went to projects in Albury-Wodonga.

The entries also covered the Wagga, Junee, Griffith and Echuca regions.

Wodonga West Children’s Centre in Lawrence Street, which opened officially in March, earned three awards for Premier Building and Construction.

As well as the top commercial gong, the centre won best commercial project $3 million-$5 million and best use of timber.

Modem Construction Group’s overall winner in Warrenlee Drive won best contract home $500,001-$750,000 while the firm also took out a commercial category.

The night’s two main successes will now progress to the Master Builders Association of NSW state awards.

Association regional manager Steve Donaghey congratulated all the recipients at Friday’s presentation, held in Wagga RSL.

“These award nights continue to be very popular with our members and showcase the outstanding abilities of master builders within this region,” he said.

Other awards included:

Southern Cross Developers – Best commercial project up to $1 million,  best commercial project $2 million-$3 million.

Zauner Construction –  Best commercial project $5 million-$10 million and best use of steel.

Joss Construction – Best commercial project over $10 million and Safework NSW Award, commercial.

J&J Carroll Pty Ltd – Best multi unit development and best sustainable energy over $500,000, domestic. 

GJ Gardner Homes –  Merit, best contract home $350,001-$450,000, Lamport Crescent, West Albury. Winner, best contract home $350,001-$450,000, Pickworth Street, Thurgoona.

Trentwood Homes – Best contract home $450,001-$500,000. 

21st Century Homes – Best exhibition/project home $350,001-$450,000, Maygar Avenue, Wodonga.
