After blowing winning opportunities against Murray Magpies and Brock-Burrum in recent weeks, the Giants weren’t about the make the same mistakes.
Trailing by 23 points at half-time, Myles Aalbers’ charges kicked 8.6 to 2.2 in the third quarter to set up the win.
“We have been knocking on the door so it was good to get some reward for effort,” Aalbers said.
Rover Ryan Lavery was outstanding for the Giants at ground level while Lewis Gardiner and Brian Lieschke were also effective.
Todd Miller kicked four goals as well as pushing up the ground to take some telling marks.
Brad Fyffe and Tyson Logie were good performers for Howlong.
The loss saw the Spiders drop to seventh spot on the ladder.
