Refugee Week family fun day at QEII Square, Albury

A MULTICULTURAL mix of food, music and dance in central Albury highlighted the contribution of refugees and their culture.

Saturday’s family fun day in QEII Square, organised by regional settlement services to coincide with the start of Refugee Week, attracted an estimated 250 people from a variety of backgrounds.

The event included a welcome to country interpreted into two other languages to assist the Bhutanese and Congolese listeners.

Multicultural settlement worker Frank Johnson, of Albury-Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau, said since 2009 nearly 1500 refugees had made the Border their home.

“It’s been such a successful settlement story here locally and we all should be very proud of that,” he said.
