Friday is Take Your Dog to Work Day, but the owners at Mark’s Spray Barn are glad every day the German shepherd is on the books.
Mark and Sally Lavery took on “Macey” at eight-months-old to be a guard dog after a spate of break-ins at the Lavington business.
“We’d been broken into eight times in one year,” Mrs Lavery said.
“Mace was in the pound – a lady’s son went to Queensland and she didn’t want a big dog, so we took him on.
“We haven’t been broken into one time since we got him.
“He’s beautiful and he’s wasted here.”
Only those with a death wish dare approach Macey when the shop is locked up – but the now four-year-old turns into a lap dog by the side of his best mate, manager Ken Lacey.
“Macey and Lacey … it’s grown on me,” Mr Lacey said.
“He’s a great dog and he greets me at the gate every morning.”
