Well, it’s getting to that time of the year where it’s only the ultra-keen, the brave or the foolish that go fishing.
In lots of cases I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of all the above.
How crazy/keen do you have to be to climb out of a perfectly warm bed before the sun is up to go out and freeze your petuties off in minus 2 degrees?
That’s what us fishos do though.
It’s gotta come from that ‘hunter/gatherer’ instinct that’s extremely deep in some people, and not there at all in others.
It’s amazing how some people just can’t get out hunting/fishing enough, and others couldn’t give a rats if they never saw a fishing rod or a rifle in their lives.
I believe you’re either born with it or you’re not, and if you’ve got it and you get the urge, well you’ve just gotta go fishing, doesn’t matter what the conditions are!

It’s not our fault, we can’t help it.
So next time you’re driving past a river or lake somewhere and you see a poor fisho sitting on the bank or drifting aimlessly around in a boat while it’s freezing cold or raining, spare a thought for them.
It’s not their fault, they can’t help themselves.
It’s basically a disease and the only known cure is to just get out there and go fish’n.
Dartmouth is still going great guns.
Lots of fishos are simply flat-line trolling with Stings, King Cobras or Tassies and doing really well, but the best I heard of this week was 13 in a session from 8am to 4pm on fenders with a scrubby behind.
The trick is not to have your scrubby more than 300 millimetres behind the fender.
Still some better fish in among the timber though, and we should get a firsthand report for next week from the boys and girls that are fishing the Albury Angling Clubs comp being held this weekend.
Lake Hume has started to pick up a bit with a few trout, redfin and the odd cod all being caught.
In saying that there’s a little bit of everything but not too many of anything being caught, if you know what I mean.
Most fish, of all species, are getting picked up on the troll with divers such as the McGrath’s and custom-crafted ‘Tadpoles’ doing as well as any and better than most.
There’s a few reddies still being picked up on small yabbies and worms though, and there’s the odd big bloke among them too.
The ‘wall’ has been pretty good of late.
Josh Read has been pestering it a fair bit, along with quite a few others, and doing really well.
I think his best effort was 10 trout in a session all caught on Rapala CD 5s in a trout pattern.
There’s also been the odd yella caught too.
