International Skate Day fell on Wednesday, but skating identity Michael Panozzo said it would be remiss of Albury's skaters to let it pass without a celebration.
We just want to bring as many new people into the sport as we can.
- Michael Panozzo
“This is something we've been doing for a few years now,” he said.
“We're encouraging people of every skill level to come down, especially if they're looking to try skating for the first time.”
Don't worry if you don’t have a board either – Mr Panozzo and a number of other Albury skaters are re-purposing old decks, so there'll be plenty of wheels to go around.
With more and more kids opting to bring their scooters to skate parks instead of skateboards, Mr Panozzo said he was hopeful there would be a resurgence.
“Anything we can do to get new people on board,” he said.
“We're lucky to have a really good skating community here, a lot of really supportive people here.
“Even if you want to just come and watch, there's some real talent in the region.”
A sausage sizzle and giveaways will be happening at the Albury Skate Park between 1pm and 3.30pm.
