Trinity Anglican College held a ceremony on Tuesday to dedicate and bless The Maxwell Centre, the tutorial centre named for longtime department head Lyn Maxwell, who died in September.
In front of the building sat a Friendship Bench, built by Thurgoona Men’s Shed in loving memory. Family members listened in the audience as learning support teacher Kathy Walsh described the many extra hours Mrs Maxwell put in to develop her skills and support children and their families.
"And this is where she thrived, assessing and understanding the complexities of learning difficulties, boy, do we miss her," Mrs Walsh said.
“Lyn always saw the person first, not the learning difficulty or the disability.
“The Maxwell Centre is now a busy, thriving environment where students visit knowing that they are unique and valued for who they are.
“The centre staff continue on, guided by her legacy of no judgement, just support.”
