Wangaratta also hit a new July record low of -5.7 degrees, which was also the coldest morning for any time of year since 2006.
Albury reached a very chilly low of -2.7, but Mount Hotham had the honour of being the coldest place in the state on Saturday with a low of -8.2 degrees.
Despite a lack of heavy snowfall, Mount Hotham Skiing Company general manager Belinda Trembath said 127,000 cubic metres of mountain-made snow allowed it to be the first Australian ski resort to open a black diamond run for the 2017 winter season from Saturday.
“We are thrilled to be opening Heavenly Valley for skiing and boarding,” she said.
