The Bureau of Meteorology said there was an 80 per cent chance Albury would exceed its median maximum August temperature of 17.4 degrees.
Daytime and nighttime temperatures are predicted to be warmer than average for much of Australia including Albury-Wodonga, Wangaratta, Corryong, Benella and Mulwala.
The region is expected to remain relatively dry throughout August.
The bureau said it was very unlikely Albury would exceed the median August rainfall of 85mm, with an 80 per cent chance it would see less than average rain.
Corryong, Wangaratta and Mulwala are unlikely to exceed their median rainfalls of 120mm, 63mm and 49mm.
Through September the region is expected to remain warm, with an 80 per cent chance of exceeding median monthly temperatures and only a 35 per cent chance of exceeding median rainfall.
