In what proved to be a fairly even contest on the day, Falcons made the most of their opportunities in the circle by converting early in the first half with a field goal from Meghan Cockayne.
They doubled the lead right on the half-time break off a short corner from Mikayla Blackshaw.
The tackling from both teams was intense throughout, with neither side giving any ground.
Falcons’ Carly Van Kesteren saved a goal on the line late in the second half, thwarting any chance of a Wombats’ fightback.
In the other games, Magpies drew level with Wodonga on 30 points after beating them 2-1, while Norths upstaged CR United 2-0.
In the men’s competition, CR United romped to a 5-2 victory against Norths.
United played a very disciplined team game which resulted in many short corners in the first half.
If it wasn’t for some brilliant saves from Norths’ goalkeeper James Towne, United would been more than 3-0 in front.
The second half was a much more even affair with both sides scoring two goals apiece.
Norths’ captain Jordan Thorneycroft and United’s Andrew Monte were strong in defence and were key in setting up the play moving forward.
Magpies claimed a 4-2 win against Wodonga, while Falcons and Wombats played out a 0-0 draw.
