Having worked in hospitality on the Border and overseas for a decade, Ms van Dorst reopened a revamped Streetbean in Macauley Street in March.
She said the space appealed to her immediately.
“I always wanted to open my own place,” Ms van Dorst said.
“My love for food and coffee just kept growing and growing.”
Having grown up at Gunnedah, Ms van Dorst worked in cafes and bars in Noli in Italy for six months and spent the past decade on the Border where she worked as a sales/marketing manager for a dairy company.
Together with partner Mat Scott-Young, Ms van Dorst wanted to offer affordable, quality food and exceptional coffee.
“I grew up in a Dutch family and have always been around food but my passion is coffee,” she said.
Streetbean serves Espresso Tenango coffee and loose leaf tea and also Bubble Tea, a Taiwanese tea-based drink with popping pearls, fruit jelly and flavoured syrups.
It also serves sweet and savoury treats, gluten-free bread and children’s sandwiches for dining-in or as takeaway.
Ms van Dorst also sings in Albury act Solace Duo with Marcus Gett on weekends.
They do acoustic covers at Border venues and for corporate functions.
