Shane Damm couldn’t give any real explanation for his actions in the Wodonga Magistrates Court on Monday, where he faced a charge of criminal damage.
The Albury man had become highly agitated while at a fuel stop in Wallan on December 12, 2014.
The victim had gotten out of his vehicle at the service station and later noticed Damm parked behind his car, sounding his horn.
The man drove away in his car and could see Damm screaming, but couldn’t tell what he was saying.
As the Albury truckie drove towards the victim, he crashed into the side of the man’s car.
The victim managed to write down the truck’s number plates.
It wasn’t until October 29 last year that police caught up with Damm during a traffic stop in Wodonga.
He was arrested and interviewed, and claimed the victim had driven at him.
He was charged, having caused close to $900 damage to the victim’s car.
Defence lawyer Mario Vaccaro said his client contested the $898.52 repair bill that the owner sought in compensation.
But magistrate Ian Watkins said he had pleaded guilty to the facts of the matter, which made it hard for him to contest the amount.
The magistrate didn’t accept that the victim had driven at Damm, who had worked for an Albury transport company at the time but is now unemployed.
Mr Vaccaro said his client, a father of two, had adjusted his life since the incident.
Mr Watkins convicted Damm, fined him nearly $600 including court costs, and ordered he pay restitution to the victim.
