The 56-year-old Beechworth man was driving north along Beechworth-Chiltern Road about 7.50am when he lost control of his Mitsubishi Triton ute, which had been towing a trailer.
The car veered off the road to the right, hit a ditch, and flipped onto its roof.
Leading Senior Constable Glen Allerdice said the man crawled out the car.
“He was trapped initially in the vehicle, but he’s managed to get himself out,” he said.
“He’s lucky to have got out of that.”
The man was taken to Wodonga hospital by ambulance to get checked out as a precaution.
Police were still investigating the cause of the crash.
Beechworth-Chiltern Road remained open while police, firefighters and paramedics were on the scene.
It came during a busy period on the roads with a three truck smash on the Hume Highway at Wodonga, a truck and animal collision at Holbrook and a golf cart fire in West Albury.
A logging truck ran into the back of a Woolworths truck about 8.45am on Wednesday, pushing it into the rear of a tip truck owned by a Border landscaping business.
The crash occurred in a roadworks zone in southbound lanes near McKoy Street and caused extensive delays for other motorists.
Senior Constable Sarrah O’Keefe said it showed the need for people to keep a safe distance when driving.
“There were no injuries, which was good for everyone involved,” she said.
“It's a bit of a reminder that everyone needs to pay attention and slow down, and keep a sufficient distance.”
Traffic will be slowed to 60km/h in the area from 7am to 5.30pm as wire safety barriers are installed by road workers.
Delays were also caused in the northbound lanes past Holbrook on Wednesday morning after a truck collided with an animal.
Police are also investigating an incident where a golf cart was driven to Roper Place, near the Albury monument, and set alight about 5.40am.
The cart, which is believed to have been stolen, was destroyed.
Albury Civic fire captain John Vandeven said firefighters had attended and extinguished the flames.
