On September 22 – the same day her second album Real Class Act is released – the sixth Country Halls Tour rolls into northern NSW.
Fanny Lumsden and The Thrillseekers will head south to play Osbornes Flat hall on October 13 and will be at Mullengandra-Bowna hall, on November 25, and Savernake hall on February 16, 2018.
In the early years she didn’t have a fan-base or chart success behind her, just a love of music and seeing people from across small communities come together for a good time.
“It started off definitely as a community get-together six years ago, it was a chance for everyone to catch up and support the local hall, raise money for the local halls,” Lumsden said.
“I think people are appreciating that we’re coming all the way to them but I think we’re lucky to get to perform in their halls.
“We’re lucky to get this secret access to communities because communities are amazing and when they allow you into their fold you just have the best time.”
Lumsden, who was raised in the northern Riverina, said more than 40 communities applied to be part of the sixth Country Halls Tour.
“We’re going to be back at Ungarie and Rankins Springs out where I grew up, which is exciting that they wanted to host it,” she said.
“And we’re also bringing it down south. The Mullengandra Bowna hall will be there, Lacmalac (outside Tumut), Osbornes Flat down near Yackandandah, Tumblong, back to Savernake again.
“We don’t usually do them twice but they had such a good time at Savernake we definitely want to come back.
“We’re really excited, it kicks off on the 22nd of September and goes all the way through to March.”
And she’s looking for local support acts in each of the communities they visit.
“We have local acts coming to all the shows and they are not all decided yet, so if you are a young up and coming act and you haven’t had the chance to play on many stages please get in touch,” Lumsden said.
“We’re also bringing Melody Moko who came on the tour last year and is one of our favourite acts. She has an album coming out this week as well.”
