When the siren sounded at the end of the fourth quarter, it was the second time that day scores had been level.
Beechworth had triumphed in extra time over Thurgoona earlier in the day in the under-14s, and this time it was the Roos’ turn to step up.
After surrendering a four-goal three quarter time lead, Yackandandah composed themselves to hold the Dogs off in the first five minutes of extra time before kicking away to a 10.7.67 to 8.7.55 win.
Roos player-coach Justin Maybury, who was also name best-on-ground in the win, said he was proud of his young side.
“We did it the hard way, that's for sure, but we backed this young team to the end and they came through with the goods,” he said.
“Through the finals we've struggled in last quarters, so this week we aimed to get fresh legs on in the last five minutes and it paid off.”
Fraser Jones kicked three goals while Maybury and Andrew Mayne kicked two each.
