Glenn Connley started in the Albury office in Dean Street on Monday, filling the position of news editor which has been vacant since May.
He replaces Paul Terry, who now works in communications for Albury Council.
Connley, who will oversee the Albury and Wagga news bulletins, grew up at Colac west of Geelong.
He began his career with Melbourne press and radio outlets before entering the world of television with stints at Nine, Ten and foreign networks ESPN and StarHub.
Connley, whose most recent position has been as producer for the Sunday Night current affairs program, is excited about returning to rural life.
“This feels like the perfect fit for me, after more than 25 years working in commercial news, public affairs and sport in Sydney, Melbourne, London and Singapore,” he said.
The Richmond football club supporter has joined Prime7 Albury six months after it began a three-way locals news contest with Nine and WIN.
Despite the added competition, Prime7 has continued to head the ratings with its Canberra-based bulletin .
Prime7 head of news Paul Patrick expects Connley will be able to continue the station’s superiority.
“Glenn’s extensive experience in news gathering and production will be invaluable in maintaining the Prime7 Local News market position as the leading local news provider across the Border and Riverina regions,” Patrick said.
