Olivia Beaufort has been working at Albury Integrated Health for the last five months as a part time receptionist.
Olivia loves her new position and contributes a lot of her success to the time she spent at Kalianna’s Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE).
“A family friend recommended that I apply for a position at Kalianna ADE and I am so glad I did,” she said.
“I spent 18 months at Kalianna and during that time I was able to develop my work skills and increase my resilience and confidence.
“I was able to plan what my future employment would look like and how I was going to get there.”
Ms Beaufort said the staff at Kalianna’s ADE know how to bring the best out in people.
“We are respected, contribute to the workplace, are listened to and have the opportunities to access ongoing training and opportunities in and outside of the workspace.”
Kalianna Business Services Manager, Lisa Browne outlined how important supported employment was.
She said in some cases this was the only opportunity people with a disability have in getting a job.
“It goes further than that though,” she said.
“This is the space that someone can get the support to develop the ‘soft skills’ that are needed to keep a job at the pace that suits the individual. We work with the individual to plan out their employment goals and break these down into manageable and achievable steps.
“There are many types of work at Kalianna such as the commercial laundry and the industries side that covers clothing recycle, small component manufacturing, and strip/packing work for local organisations.
“Olivia is an excellent example of how successful supported employment can be and she has worked hard and consistently to achieve her employment goals.
“Another element of Olivia’s success is credited to Kirinari Community Services in the way of assistance with cooking meals and some cleaning. This is a valuable part of Olivia’s independent living.”
A Supported Employment Open Day will be held on Tuesday October 17, between 11:00am – 2:00pm at 857 Leslie Drive, North Albury (laundry) and 841 Leslie Drive (workshop).
