Caitlin Campbell and her bull arab cross Elsie, whose back leg was amputated, were among a group of about 60 dog owners and their pets taking part in Parklands Albury Wodonga event.
“Last year she got out onto the road in front of our house and was hit by a car – all the bones in her leg were shattered,” Ms Campbell said.
“It was really sad, but she doesn’t even notice now, and she loves everyone.”
Ms Campbell was keen to take on the Gateway Island trail network.
“We don’t have many events like this so it will be awesome to have it again,” she said.
PAW event development ranger Sean Greenhill said the commentary was similar among the participants.
“They’re grateful to have a chance to run with their dogs in a formal setting,” he said.
“We will really put the name out there next year.”
The 2018 Border Barkfest will be expanded to include stalls and activities.
