Police are now appealing for information to find the weapons, which could be in the wrong hands and loaded with ammunition.
Thieves broke into a home on River Street in Corowa sometime between Saturday morning and Monday night while the occupants were away.
Seventeen firearms – including eight rifles, two shotguns, two revolvers, four pistols, an air rifle and assorted ammunition – were stolen from three secured safes.
A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.
Police have not said how the thieves broke into the safes.
Officers from Albury are investigating and have appealed for assistance from anyone with information about the break-in, asking them to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Corowa Shire only had 20 incidents of prohibited and regulated weapons offences in the 12 months to June 2017, down from 29 the year before.
The rate of gun crime was still slightly higher than the NSW state average.
