The Sydney therapist and national advisor for the Institute for Multisensory Language Education delivered the first MSL associate course in regional Victoria to 30 teachers and parents in Wodonga this week.
A former teacher, Ms Finnie left the profession because she felt disillusioned and knew there had to be a better way to help children struggling with reading.
Research led her to MSL, which she describes as a “fantastic” evidence-based way of teaching.
“It’s not just for students with dyslexia; I use it for children with autism, hearing impairment, ESL … basically I look at any child failing to read.
“I jumped at the chance to teach the teachers so we can reach even more children – and put myself out of a job!”
