Sounds like just about everyone’s catching a few at the minute.
It was great to see more trout going into Lake Hume lately, bringing this year’s releases to 69,000.
It’s also great to see there are plans already in place for even more releases next year.
Yes, 69,000 is a lot of fish, but with Lake Hume being such a huge mass of water with quite a large population in close proximity creating a fair bit of fishing pressure more fish next year would be more than welcome.
The fishing in Hume improves with these releases but they also benefit lots of streams.
The Mitta Valley in particular seems to be fishing over and above most other north east streams and I’m sure that can be put down to trout moving up out of the lake when conditions suit them.
The intention might be to improve the lake trout fishery, which I’m sure it has, but who cares. As long as those fish are being caught somewhere fisheries are spending our licence money wisely and putting fish on hooks, which is what it’s all about.
At a Glance
Dartmouth – is still going well with reports of good numbers but not much size. It seems any fish over the 600-700g mark is decent, with most being in the 500g mark.
Flat lining or lead lining using Cobras or Tassies, particularly anything with a coloured wing seems to be doing the trick.
You might be able to get into the lure comp there this weekend if you hurry!
Lake Hume – will be super busy this weekend with the Leigh Martin Marine Mercury Classic being held.
Last chance to register is by 10am this morning at the Lake Hume Tourist Park.
There should be lots of trout recorded by all reports as they seem to be going the best they have all season!
There’s heaps of reddies being caught too but most are on the smaller side.
The main target species for the comp is Yellowbelly and while the numbers of those blokes has improved a bit in the last few weeks they really haven’t hit their straps yet.
Let’s hope they really fire up over the weekend.
Below the wall – the trout are going pretty well. There’s an odd decent reddie and a few yellas showing up too.
Most yellas and reddies are getting nailed on hard bodied lures while trout are on the lead fish and King Cobra/Tassie’s
Mulwala – We haven’t heard much from Mulwala but I assume there’d be the odd yella coming in with most people saving a visit up for cod season, which isn’t that far away.
